Westminster's Kohn Squash Pavilion, which stands at the top of the school's new entrance driveway, is the home of Westminster's Boys' and Girls' Squash programs. The facility, which opened in the winter of 2000, gives the Martlets what is arguably the finest squash facility in New England. Internationally ranked player Brett Martin feels it is one of the finest facilities in the world. Spectators can view the action on the eight international courts from a central elevated viewing platform, as well as from balconies that overlook the courts.
The Third Boys' Squash program is designed to be developmental, but historically it has also functioned as a feeder program. Nearly every year, one or more players who began their squash careers on the Third Team end up playing for the First Team, some of them high up on the ladder, while the Second Team is filled with former Third Team players who have fought their way up the school ladder. Through drills, conditioning exercise, competitive games, and interscholastic matches, the boys work on fitness, technique, and tactics. They practice a variety of shots and strategies and become adept at playing four-corners squash. Trained to play with Grit and Grace — two concepts that nicely define the game of squash — they leave the program with the necessary skills and the desire to play squash throughout their adult lives.
