Third Boys' Hockey gains steam throughout the game but falls to Simsbury 3-1

The Thirds boys took the ice again on Tuesday evening for the always anticipated showdown of in-town rival, Simsbury High School. A last minute healthy scratch of Tucker Wieber '18 led to a challenging three man defensive rotation with Tim Harris '17, Tyler Rome '16 and Jackson Schopp '19. These three played hard and managed their energy as best they could against a wave of Simsbury skaters from the opening whistle. Down 0-1 after the first stanza, the Martlets were slow to wake up in this contest, uncharacteristically so, and could only improve in the second and third with a commitment to one on one battles across the entire sheet. They did just that. The Black and Gold were a different team in the second, finding their collective energy and taking pride in working hard, playing physical, and pressuring the Trojan tender. The team had a handful of good scoring chances, and Carson Roth '19 netted a low accurate shot following some "bing, bing" passing from linemates Wick Carter '19 and Ryan Szykowny '18. The third period was back and forth with intensity until Simsbury slipped one by Spencer Rellinger '17, who was sharp throughout the contest. With its goalie pulled in the final minute, Westminster would not notch the goal they needed to send this one into OT. Simsbury found the open net one last time. Onward to the next contest against the local Bantam A squad.
