Third Boys' Hockey earns first win with strong team play

With a well-deserved Hill Holiday lurking in the backdrop of the Third Boys' Hockey team's contest against Taft, the boys stepped up to take care of business. Coming off of a poor and unfocused Tuesday practice, Coach Stevens was unsure of which team would arrive at game time. Beyond the ever-consistent tending of Alex Gadowski '18, the Martlets again squared off against a Taft team that had a few giants leading their charge, but Westminster's quickness and physical engagement would rule the day as the team competed in all three ends and notched its strongest offensive effort of the campaign. The Martlets went down early and headed into the second period trailing 1-0, but they answered with a beautiful powerplay goal punctuated by Grant Noble's '18 door step jam off of a passing sequence that included SK Lee' 18 and a few others. Other goal scorers included Jackson Schopp '19 and Carson Roth '19, who had two on the day. The Black and Gold enjoyed a deep effort with the likes of Mason Horrigan ' 18, Ethan Pulhala '18, Bryan Rome '19 and Shane Wahlberg '19 playing hard, smart shifts when the team needed it most. Not to be forgotten, the veteran blue liners of Tyler Rome '16, Jackson Schopp '19, Tim Harris '17 and Tucker Wieber '18 physically managed the D-end while also jumping into the offensive flow. The Thirds team hopes to carry newfound momentum and confidence into Saturday's game against the highly touted Rifles from Springfield.
