Martlets Double Up Wild Boars

The Martlets ventured south on Friday night, ready to clash with the Wild Boars of Choate in a highly anticipated Founders League showdown. The home team came out firing, striking just two minutes into the opening frame to grab an early 1-0 advantage. The Martlets, however, weathered the initial storm and found their skating legs midway through the first period. Their persistence paid off when Carson Craig ’26 crashed the net, pounced on a loose puck, and buried the rebound to even the score.
Just as momentum seemed to shift in favor of the visitors, a defensive miscue just inside the Martlets’ blue line allowed Choate to capitalize and reclaim the lead before the first intermission.
Refusing to back down, the Black and Gold came out flying in the second period, dialing up the intensity and committing to a relentless 200-foot game. Goaltender Jack Fichthorn ’26 was a rock between the pipes, turning aside 27 of 30 shots with his trademark poise and positioning throughout the game.
Offensively, the Martlets found their groove and began to dictate the pace of play. Derek Rhodes ’25 led the charge with a stellar performance, lighting the lamp three times for a natural hat trick. Not to be outdone, Tommy Coccaro ’26 added a pair of goals during the final 36 minutes, showcasing his finishing touch and helping secure a hard-fought 6-3 victory on the road.
With confidence running high, the Martlets now set their sights on another tough test as they travel to Pomfret on Saturday, looking to build on their win.
