Martlets Win on the Road

In the first “Battle of the Birds” of the season, The Martlets headed over to Windsor to face the Pelicans from Loomis Chaffee. The Martlets came away victorious with a solid performance from start to finish defeating the Pelicans 6-2. From the opening puck drop, the Martlets played with great pace and energy.
Westminster wasted no time in taking control, jumping to a 3-0 lead after the first period. Blake Burke opened the scoring early, followed by Derek Rhodes who found the back of the net off a slick pass from Tommy Coccaro. Carson Craig added a power-play goal late in the frame, giving the Martlets a commanding advantage.
The Pelicans responded in the second, pushing the Martlets back on their heels.  Quinn Pine notched a goal for Westminster to extend the lead to 4-0. Loomis Chaffee managed to get one back, but it was clear the Martlets were in control, carrying a comfortable two-goal cushion into the third period.
Loomis pushed back hard in the final frame, managing to cut the lead to 4-2, but the Martlets' defense and goaltender Jack Fichthorn stood tall. Fichthorn was spectacular, turning away several quality chances and preventing the Pelicans from gaining any further momentum. With Loomis pressing for a comeback, Tommy Coccaro put the game out of reach with a goal to make it 5-2. Owen Burke sealed the win with an empty-net goal in the final minute, securing the 6-2 win for Westminster.
The Martlets' performance was highlighted by their well-structured game, fast-paced transition play, and special teams, which were on point throughout. The penalty kill was stellar, while the power play delivered when needed. Jack Fichthorn was outstanding in net, making key saves at critical moments and keeping the Pelicans at bay.
