Martlets Fall to Cheshire Academy

On the second day of the Holiday Tournament, Westminster faced off against a talented and athletic Cheshire team. Despite facing a strong opponent, the Martlets were energized and played one of their best games of the season. In the first half, Ellie Smith ‘27 solidified our presence in the post and started our scoring off after securing a nice offensive rebound. Lauren Neuman ‘25 continued to lead our team with relentless defense and hit a key three-pointer to bring our halftime deficit to 5. In the third quarter, Eva Rodgers ‘25 caught fire from beyond the arc, hitting two quick 3’s, Lauren Neuman followed with a steal-and-score, and Westminster found themselves with a 1 point lead. The game went back-and-forth with several lead changes, but a buzzer beating layup by Lilly Murphy ‘25 gave Westminster a 1 point lead going into the final quarter. In the final 8 minutes, the Martlets began to experience some tired legs and Cheshire’s athleticism helped them build out a lead, but Westminster never gave up. Delia Lockwood ‘26 and Kaitlyn Buda ‘27 continued to battle in the post and found some key scoring opportunities to keep the game close. Despite their best efforts and relentless energy, the Martlets came up short, but we will look forward to a rematch with Cheshire later in the season.
