Martlets Place 3rd

The Westminster Boys’ and Girls’ swimming/diving teams had a phenomenal meet this Saturday at the Kingswood Oxford Invitational. The Girls’ team raced against seven other schools and placed fifth overall, while the boys’ team raced against six other schools and placed third. The success of both teams is indicative of the grit, determination, and hard-work that the swimmers have poured into practice each day and the support they offer each other through an incredibly challenging sport. 
 
The Girls’ team started strong in the 200 Yard Medley Relay. The team was composed of Ellie Pearman ‘25, Jennifer Weber ‘26, Hayden Schneider ‘25, and Sunshine Li ‘26. The girls’ placed third in this event. Following this event, Hayden Schneider ’25 won the 200 Freestyle, with Cameron Perillo ‘ 28 coming in thirteenth her first time swimming the event. Jennifer Weber ’26 took third in the 200 IM. Lily Raskind ’25 placed tenth and Sunshine li ‘ 26 placed fifth in the 50 Freestyle. Sunshine Li ’26 went on to finish fifth in the 100 freestyle, while Ellie Pearman ’25 took tenth place. Jennifer Weber ’26 finished third in the 500 Freestyle. In the 200 Freestyle relay Westminster placed fourth and tenth. Ellie Pearman ’25 won the 100 Backstroke with Jasmine Fu coming in tenth place. Lily Raskind ’25 finished the Martlets day by placing fifth in the 100 Breastroke.
 
The Boys’ started the meet off in phenomenal fashion. The 200 Medley Relay team composed of John Dwyer ‘26, Reggie Kanu ‘25, Sam Hyde ’25 and Will Larock '26 finished second to Milton Academy.  Will Larock ’26 took 3rd place in the 200 freestyle while John  Dwyer ’26 took second in the 200 IM. Reggie Kanu with second place in the 50 Freestyle with Jesse Yang ’27 taking tenth. Sam Hyde ‘25 finished third in the 100 Butterfly with Ben Yu ’28 taking tenth place. Reggie Kanu ’25 won the 100 freestyle with Jesse Yang ’27 coming in ninth.  Will Larock ‘26 followed up in the 500 Freestyle, placing fourth. The boys went on to  claim a hard-fought first place victory in the 200 Freestyle Relay (team of Dwyer, Larock, Hyde, and Kanu). John Dwyer won the 100 Backstroke. Ben Yu ’28 competed in the 100 Backstroke as well putting up the third fastest time. Finally, Filip Tomic ’25 placed sixth in the 100 Breaststroke.
 
A fantastic day of racing for all! The Martlets look forward to a few more hard days training and then a well deserved break!
