Martlets Fall to Eaglebrook

On a chilly day in December, the boys began their season against a surprisingly strong group of Eagles. After some quick instruction during warmups, the boys got off to a great start. Alex Brown ‘27 got things started with a long three ball off the glass. The Martlets then played suffocating defense and kept the scoring low. Sam Herdeg ‘27 frustrated the Eagles and had several breakaway layups. At the break Westminster led 18-16. The Eagles made some lucky shots in the third period and built a twelve point lead. Eaglebrook looked like they might run away with the lead, but Liam Hibbard ‘27 had other ideas. Hibbard was able to make some three pointers, get some steals, and lead a comeback during the final stanza. Hibbard led all scorers with 12 points. Manny Cazeau ‘28 and Bennett Varao ‘27 also chipped in some key buckets. In the last four minutes, the Martlets had several good looks, but were unable to capitalize. The game ended with Eaglebrook on top, 37-32. Although it was a loss, the boys should be proud of their hustle and effort during this game. In addition to the players above, everyone contributed to an outstanding beginning to the season. The boys return to action on Wednesday as they try to tame the Tigers of Suffield.
