Martlets Defeat St. George's

The Westminster swim team traveled to St. George’s this Saturday for their season opener, marking the first meet after just a couple weeks back in the water. The boys’ team secured an exciting victory, defeating St. George’s for the first time since 2018, while the girls put forth a strong effort in a narrow loss.
The boys’ team showcased depth and determination throughout the meet. Highlights included standout performances from John Dwyer ’26, who claimed victories in the 200 IM and 100 Back, and Reggie Kanu ’25, who delivered a decisive win in the 100 Breast. The boys also excelled in relay events, with the 200 Medley Relay team (Dwyer ’26, Kanu ’25, Samuel Hyde ’25, and Will Larock ’26) securing first place with a time of 1:44.81. Larock also earned key points in the 200 Free and 500 Free, demonstrating consistency in distance events.
For the girls, Sunshine Li ’26 impressed with a win in the 50 Free and a strong second-place finish in the 100 Free. Jennifer Weber ’26 and Ellie Pearman ’25 contributed with podium finishes in the 200 IM and 500 Free, respectively. The 400 Free Relay team (Pearman ’25, Weber ’26, Hayden Schneider ’25, and Li ’26) put up a strong fight, taking second place with a time of 4:16.58.
Despite times being slightly off personal bests—a typical outcome for early-season meets—the team’s effort and potential were evident. With this solid start, the Martlets look forward to building on their performances as they prepare for their next competition.
