Martlets Fall to IMS

Westminster’s Thirds Girls’ Soccer traveled to beautiful Lakeville, CT on a gorgeous fall day. The team was trying out a new formation which included a defensive mid position. The martlets fought tough throughout the game and played well with just a few exceptions. With 15 minutes left in the first half a corner loose ball found its way in front of the net for an easy score by IMS. A few minutes later one of the IMS strikers fought her way through the defense for a breakaway goal. Westminster continued to fight hard for possessions and opportunities but yielded a late goal right before the half. The main identity of the team this season has been to come out of the half strong and ready to play even harder. This game was no exception. There were several drives towards the opponents net thanks to some solid play from strikers Ilana Mezheritskiy ‘27 and Gloria Oh ‘28. Lily Shuster ‘27 stepped out of her usual goalie position to play some midfield and made some excellent contributions to the effort along with midfielders Ellie Mallett ‘28, Ellie Pearman ‘25, Luna Yang ‘26 and Caroline Hebbeler ‘27. Jennifer Weber ‘26 played the entire second half and almost single handedly scored a late goal. The team also thanks Mason Turton ‘27 who played as the keeper for the entire second half and allowed Lily Shuster to play in the field. Credit goes to Mason and the entire team for keeping IMS from scoring at all during that half, and the team finished the game with the 3-0 loss.
