Martlets Fall to Suffield

The Martlets took on Suffield Academy today on Hovey field for the second to last home game of the season. From the start of the game, it was clear that these two teams would match up well. The first quarter was back and forth with both teams having solid chances. The back and forth pace continued into the second quarter and with about five minutes remaining in the half, the Martlets got on the scoreboard! The play started when Hadley Crowther ’25 picked up a loose ball and made a quick run towards goal. She dished it off to Liza Merrill ’25 who crossed the ball in the circle to Lily Vincent ’25 who spun around and put the ball in the far back corner of the net! The Martlets were able to maintain their lead for the remainder of the half. The solid play from both teams continued into the second half. The Martlets played strong in all areas of the field and were truly putting together a full team effort. All the offensive opportunities that the Martlets earned started with solid defense and goaltending on the other end of the field. The team maintained momentum and the spirits were high. Although things seemed to be heading in the right direction, Suffield would get their first of the game with about three minutes remaining in the third quarter, bringing the game to 1-1. The Martlets did not let this late third quarter goal dull their momentum and they started the fourth quarter strong. A competitive, back and forth, final fifteen minutes came to a disappointing end when Suffield would get the game winning goal with just over a minute remaining in the game. Although it was disappointing, the Martlets battled hard and had a lot to be proud of following today’s game. Our next game will be against Taft this upcoming Wednesday at home!
