Martlets Defeat Salisbury

The Westminster JV Boys came from behind twice to win the game in the final minute 3-2. Charlie Hansell ‘28 was instrumental in the victory with two goals and an assist. Charlie was especially sharp in both his control and thought, and provided far more than his three key contributions today. Andrew Sala ‘25 is quickly emerging as a potent force in the midfield, winning possession and quickly finding a Westminster shirt to start the attack. Andrew single-handedly stifled the Salisbury midfield at times, and willingly performed the unglamorous but critical work. Justin Fu ‘27 is relentless in both defense and attack; with his lightning quick feet he will have made the tackle and be ten feet away before his opponent even realizes he has lost the ball. Justin has that rare gift to already be running to the right place before I can get him a message. Teddy Russell ‘26 made the first equalizer, pouncing on a loose ball from the Salisbury keeper. Both of Charlie’s goals came from his intelligent use of space and excellent running. After closing the distance Charlie slotted the ball past a helpless keeper, eventually winning us the game. This was a great team performance and the boys should be proud of their efforts. They were unphased even after going down a goal twice, and trusted each other to get back into the game.

G&G goes to Andrew Sala ‘25 today for his work in the midfield. Nobody was more surprised than him after a perfect touch to bring a high ball under control, and today was a great mark of his progress over the years.
