Martlets Remain Unbeaten

The Martlets took Hovey field on a beautiful fall afternoon facing off against Miss Porters school, looking to get their sixth win of the season. From the start of the game, the Martlets came ready to play. Throughout the half, the Martlets played as a unit and were able to maintain possession for the majority of the first two quarters. When the Martlets lost the ball, they hustled hard to retrieve it and continued to add relentless pressure to Miss Porter’s defense. The strong play of the Martlets caused numerous corners, none of which led to a goal. The strong corner defense and goaltending from Miss Porter’s caused the half to end in a scoreless draw. Although the Martlets were struggling to find the back of the net, they stayed composed and stuck to the game plan. As the second half began, Mana Shida ’25 found the ball in the circle off of a rebound and was able to give the Martlets a 1-0 lead! This goal opened up the scoring for the Martlets, who would go on to add four more to the scoreboard. The next goal came off the stick of Allysen Whitehead ’25. The Martlet’s senior captain got possession at the top of the circle and showed some impressive individual skill to ward off the defense and eventually get off a strong direct hit. The third quarter ended in a 2-0 Martlet lead. Not long after the fourth quarter began, Kate Epke ’27 put the ball in the circle and found the stick of Lily Vincent ’25 who was able to put home the Martlets third goal of the game. The scoring continued when Vincent found herself alone in the circle and was able to get a quick shot off to beat the goalkeeper. Lily O’Callaghan’s ‘28 impressive rush up the field led to the Martlet goal. The final goal of the game came from Whitehead again who continued to showcase her individual skill to bring the final score to 5-0. Hannah Maltby ’26 was in net for the Martlets and recorded a shutout on the day! The Martlets look forward to their next game this Saturday at Loomis Chaffee at 3pm!

Our Grit and Grace player of the game goes to Allysen Whitehead ’25! Whitehead’s composure and consistent play all over the field lead the Martlet’s to their sixth win of the season!
