Martlets Fall to Taft

Our Martlets hosted the Big Red Rhinos on Michelini Field and came up on the short end of the scoreboard. Despite a good warm-up and focused pre-game, Taft controlled play from the outset and we seemed to be chasing the ball the entire game. We ended the first half trailing by four goals. Taft scored in several different ways: an uneven breakaway, a corner kick, a low cross from the left wing, and even on another breakaway off a long punt from their goalie. The Taft team was big, strong, fast, and physical. In this game, like our last, we struggled to find good opportunities for scoring chances. In the second half Taft scored early (second minute) and late (33rd minute) on breakaways. Our back line defense had a challenging day on the pitch. We travel to Loomis Chaffee for a 2pm game on Saturday. Several players played hard all game; our GRIT & Grace award winner for this game is Brooks Berthiaume ‘27.
