Martlets Fall to Pomfret

Thirds Boys’ Soccer traveled to the “quiet corner” of Connecticut for a battle against the Pomfret School Griffins. We started the game a little off compared to our previous games; finding the right field, lack of cohesion, and uncertainty in warm-ups contributed to our slow start. Three minutes into the game Pomfret broke into the scorebook off a nice cross from the left wing and the open striker easily scored. Six minutes later Pomfret scored again after another cross from the left wing. Trailing 0-2 early in the game, our Martlets tried to regroup and started carrying the play into our offensive half. Our defense stepped up and caught the Griffins offsides several times (having two officials working the game helps with this approach). A soft goal left us trailing 0-3 going into halftime. During the second half we continued to press and had a few chances that either missed the goal or were saved. Pomfret added another tally late on a short breakaway. Henry Baird ‘26 at center back had another strong game and is our GRIT & Grace player of the game. We’ll have two days of practice to get back to our good habits before we host The Taft School on Wednesday at 3pm
