Martlets Compete at Choate

The boys cross country team raced the 2024 Choate Invitational this Saturday on a very difficult 5k course, where seven runners finished in the top 50 in their respective races. In the most challenging of the three races - "the veterans race" - captain James O'Connell ‘25 led the way in 21st overall in a time of 20:41, followed closely by captain Sam Hyde '25 26th overall with our second fastest time of the day in 21:00. Nick Lopriore '26 shocked the world in just his fifth day on the team, finishing with the team's third fastest time in 22:35. Matt O'Connell '25 in 23:28 finished in the top 50 as well on a day where he was on a flight to Hartford a mere two hours before the race start and saw him literally racing  just to get to the start line. Jeff Shao '26 in 28:05 rounded out the veterans race showing his definitive grit and grace.

The next race featured over a hundred runners at the start and saw Yang Michael Wang '27 threw down the best time for Westminster in the race in 24:39, followed immediately by our only third former racing Mikey Wang '28 who ran 24:47, and Liam Murray '26 in 24:53 despite some very difficult hills. All three finished in the top 50. Lester Gu '27 in 27:32, Connor Scollans '26 in 27:40, and Niraj Prakash '26 flew in next with probably the best sprints of the day for Westy, with the nod to Niraj for best sprint of the day.
