Martlets Topple Kent

Our Martlets made the trek to Kent School to battle the Lions in the season opener for each school. Due to the forecasted, yet unseasonable temperatures, the teams agreed to play four 20-minute quarters. The teams were evenly matched in the early going with the ball moving up and down the field in both directions. In the 14th minute Kent played a hand ball in the box and the Martlets were awarded a penalty kick which Owen McNally ‘26 calmly converted right into the center of the goal. Two minutes later as we pushed forward again, one of our players was taken down inside the penalty box. This time Jayden Lee ‘25 converted the PK. Midway through the second quarter Lee broke through and scored his second goal of the game. Kent had several opportunities to get back into the game, but the defense led by George Baird ‘26 and Henry Baird ‘26 held strong. Will Gallagher ‘27 made some strong saves and distributed the ball well to start our team going forward. Later in the game Tyson Mertz ‘27 popped in a rebound to finish the scoring for the day. Westminster will use the upcoming week of practice to improve individual player skills and team concepts before hosting Salisbury next Saturday at 3pm.
