Martlets Win Opener

The Martlets hosted neighboring Ethel Walker School in their first game of the 2024-2025 season. The Martlets entered the game excited to compete, following a two week span of preparation for the season. Both teams had the task of fighting through the blazing heat that came through Simsbury, CT this September afternoon. Martlet seniors led the way bringing the energy and adding to the scoresheet three times. The first goal of the season came off the stick of senior captain, Allysen Whitehead, as a result of one of the many corners the Martlets had throughout the day! The successful passing of fellow senior captain, Hadley Crowther, and freshman Lily O’Callaghan, is what helped the Martlets get on the scoresheet. Senior Allysen Whitehead continued to get her second goal of the game off of a nice hit from the top of the circle, which gave the Martlets a 2-0 lead. The Martlets were able to hold their 2-0 lead going into halftime where they got their well-earned rest. When play started in the third quarter, senior Liza Merrill wasted no time adding to the Martlets lead. After putting good pressure on the opposing teams defense, Liza hustled hard to the net and was able to put the Martlets on the score sheet once again. The martlets finished the job by maintaining possession throughout the remainder of the game and adding good pressure to the Ethel Walker goalkeeper, who made some impressive saves throughout the day. The martlets are excited to start the season 1-0 and are looking forward to their next game on Saturday September 21st at Northfield Mount Hermon School at 4pm!
