Westminster Martlets Welcome New Varsity Boys’ Soccer Coach

Bringing over two decades of coaching excellence and leadership to the team, Westminster Boys' Varsity Soccer is excited to welcome Coach Tony Leone as its new head coach. Coach Leone brings extensive expertise and leadership to the program. Most recently, he served as head coach at Wethersfield High School, where he led his teams to the CIAC Tournament every year, including two appearances in the quarterfinals. Under his guidance, Wethersfield earned four consecutive conference championships, including two undefeated regular seasons.

Coach Leone’s impressive coaching legacy also includes a Class S state championship and recognition as Coach of the Year at Cromwell High School. His passion for soccer extends beyond the high school level, having played a key role in youth development as director of operations for Connecticut Football Club (CFC) and leading their ECNL High School Boys’ Program. Additionally, his professional experience includes roles with MLS’s New England Revolution and the WUSA’s Philadelphia Charge, providing him with a unique perspective on the game at all levels.

Coach Leone is no stranger to the Westminster community. He and his wife, Courtney Leone (Saunders), a former All-American at Baylor University and professional soccer player, are proud Westminster parents to Izzie '27. Their son, Nico, is a January 2025 graduate of Rocky Hill High School and is pursuing a career in aviation.

Reflecting on his new role, Coach Leone shared: “From the moment we stepped on campus for my daughter’s open house, I knew Westminster was special. Now, I’m honored to join this community—not just as a parent, but as a coach. Westminster embodies pride, passion, and a shared commitment to greatness. I’m eager to build on the strong foundation laid by Coach Jay Keough, bringing a winning mentality while always keeping sight of the importance of grit and grace. Together, we will achieve great things.”

Director of Athletics Tim Joncas said, “We are excited for the future of the soccer program under Coach Leone’s leadership and look forward to all that lies ahead. Please join us in welcoming him to the Martlet family!”
