Martlets Fall To Deerfield

The JV team kicked off the season with a competitive and spirited first match. While we didn’t notch a team win, there were strong performances across the board and great signs of what’s to come.
In singles play, Kitty Olson '27 came through with a dominant 8–1 win, playing smart, consistent tennis and constructing points beautifully. Courts 1, 3, and 4 each put up a great fight, but ultimately came up short.  Lilly Murphy '25 had a slow start but worked hard to close the gap, staying mentally tough throughout, ending 5-8. Diggy Elwell '25 came out hot, taking an early lead, but couldn’t hold off a strong comeback, ending 4-8. Virginia Whiting '26 stayed composed and positive, even as momentum shifted, and ended 3-8.
Ashley Hill ‘25 and Elle Kozusko '25 picked up a strong 8–4 win, showing great chemistry and hustle. Avery Gray '26 and Luna Yang '26 played a close, exciting match that came down to a tiebreaker (6–7). Their rallies were some of the best of the day, and their teamwork really stood out. Lulu Dawson '27 and Pipa Jervis '28, brand new to the team and playing together for the first time, lost a close 6–8 match, but held their own impressively—an encouraging start for the pair.
All in all, this was a solid opening match. The team supported each other, played with heart, and left it all on the court. We're excited to keep building from here!
