Martlets Fall to Pomfret

In a thrilling contest at Westminster School, the Junior Varsity Martlets battled hard but ultimately fell short to Pomfret, 42-38, in a game marked by 12 lead changes. Westminster showed impressive teamwork in the first half, taking a 27-20 lead into halftime after a strong 10-2 run that put them ahead. The Martlets demonstrated excellent ball movement, recording eight assists in the first half and controlling the paint with 40 rebounds. Mike Basich led the team with nine points, while Hudson Black dominated the boards with nine rebounds. The Martlets’ defense was also notable, as they registered 12 steals, with Basich contributing three of them.
The Martlets came out with renewed energy in the second half, pushing back against Pomfret’s surge. Despite trailing 33-24, Westminster fought hard, keeping the game close and refusing to back down. Though they couldn't hold on to their lead, their hustle was evident throughout, with multiple players stepping up. Brody DiBenedito’s hustle and determination did not go unnoticed. In addition Basich, Ethan Hernandez (8 points), Connor Gray (7 points), and Cole Hadden (5 points) contributed to the effort. Despite the heartbreaking finish, Westminster's strong rebounding, solid defense, and ball movement showed the Martlets' potential, making it clear that they were a force to be reckoned with in this intense matchup.
