Martlets Defeat Gunn

After making the trip to Frederick Gunn, the Martlets jumped out to a quick start fueled by their defensive intensity and transition offense. Eva Rodgers ‘25 started the game with a steal and a fastbreak layup, signaling that defense would be the key to today’s game. A few possessions later, Eva hit a 3-pointer, Kaitlyn Buda ‘27 then secured a steal as the Highlanders tried to break the Martlet pressure. Kaitlyn found Lauren Neuman ‘25 who pushed the ball and found Lilly Murphy ‘25 cutting into the paint for an open layup. It was poetry in motion. Throughout the rest of the first half, Lilly dominated the paint, collecting six offensive rebounds and scoring four points. Delia Lockwood ‘26 also established herself under the hoop, playing excellent defense on Gunn’s post player and finding good looks at the rim on offense. As Lauren continued to push the pace of the game, Parker Perillo ‘26 and Gianna Monaco ‘27 logged valuable minutes, playing lockdown defense and contributing to our fastbreak opportunities. Gianna had one of her best games of the season, finding success in attacking the gaps in our opponent’s zone, scoring 11 points, and securing five steals. The Martlets also received valuable contributions from Ellie Smith ‘27 (five rebounds), Melody El-Amin ‘27 (four points), Charlotte Tyler ‘28 (three points), and Lily O’Callaghan ‘27 (three rebounds and one steal). It was a full team effort. The Martlets will now turn their sights to a rematch against Cheshire Academy on Friday night.
