Martlets Fall to DA

In a hard-fought Junior Varsity basketball game at Westminster School, the Martlets were narrowly defeated by Deerfield Academy, 40-35. Despite a strong second-half surge, Westminster couldn't quite overcome Deerfield's early 13-point lead.
The game saw a renewed energy in the second half, as Westminster came out with vigor and determination, closing the gap significantly. Leading the charge offensively was Mike Basich ‘26, whose aggressive play and scoring ability helped spark the team’s comeback. He finished with 6 points, with most of his scoring coming in the second half as he became a key offensive weapon for the Martlets.
Ethan Hernandez ’27 had a standout performance, finishing with 14 points, while Finn Williams ‘26 and Mike Basich ‘26 each added 6. Connor Gray ‘26 contributed 3 points, and both Calvin Bixby ’28 and Stephen Lau ’28 chipped in with 2 points apiece. Lau, returning from an injury, showed his resilience and made a positive impact on both ends of the floor.
Jacoby Jones ’27 also had a memorable game, scoring his first points for the Martlets while playing solid defense, along with Hudson Black ’27, who helped keep Deerfield’s offense in check.
Despite the loss, the team showed their potential for the rest of the season. The Martlets will look to build on this momentum as they prepare for the challenges that will face them in 2025.
