Martlets Fall to Bears at Nationals

The Nationals are known for producing very tight matchups, and today’s match was an example. The teams split the top four matches, the number five was won by the Martlets when Berkshire’s player was forced to retire, and the Bears took two close matches at the bottom. At #7 Meiyin Ren ‘25 came tantalizingly close in every game, but fell in three (8, 10, 8). At #6, Anna Min ‘27 played a seesaw match that fittingly ended with extra points in the fifth game ((7), (12), 4, 5, 10). In a repeat of her match last night Sophia Lazor ‘27 took a game to find her groove at #1, but then played with ruthless and increasing efficiency in her four set win ((9), 6, 3, 1). The remaining win came from co-captain Emily Fonner ‘26, who got her first win of the tournament in decisive and satisfying fashion with a straight set win (9, 6, 7) in which she displayed her wide variety of shotmaking skills. The girls will finish tomorrow against local rival Loomis.
