Martlets Fall to Suffield

In an exhilarating game on Friday at Suffield Academy, the Westminster School Junior Varsity Martlets came up just short, falling 59-57 in a thrilling contest. After trailing by as many as 21 points, Westminster mounted a determined comeback, outscoring Suffield 39-29 in the second half. The Martlets went into halftime behind 30-18, but a renewed energy in the second half, led by Ethan Hernandez, gave them a real shot at the upset. Hernandez was a standout, scoring 9 points in the second half and finishing with 19 points overall. Despite a late 14-point run by Suffield that extended their lead to 33-26, Westminster’s resilience kept the game close, and they were within striking distance in the final moments.
The Martlets' second-half surge showcased their teamwork and determination. Ethan Hernandez's scoring and six assists played a major role, while Finn Williams also contributed with key three-pointers. Connor Gray’s intensity and grit throughout the game was electric. The team was solid on the boards, collecting 34 rebounds, with Mike Basich pulling down seven. Westminster’s defense applied pressure throughout the game, forcing 13 steals, led by Garett Rohrbaugh’s three steals. While the team shot 8-23 from beyond the arc (35%), they demonstrated impressive ball movement with 14 assists on 21 made baskets. Despite strong contributions from multiple players, including Connor Gray (10 points), Garett Rohrbaugh (8 points), and Finn Williams (7 points), the Martlets narrowly fell to Suffield in a heartbreaking finish.
