Martlets Tie Suffield

We played a great game against a hybrid JV/4th team from Suffield Academy today. Taking advantage of their improved personnel on a beautiful day on Wilbraham Field, the visiting Tigers overcame a late start after warming up on the wrong field and played well. Suffield, supported by an influx of older, more skilled players used to a higher level of competition, played stymying defense that clogged the middle of the field. The Martlets Quad Squad, perhaps benefitting from the familiarity bred by an all-freshmen roster that’s been unchanged since September, mostly controlled the play all afternoon, especially in the second half, when the wind was at our back. We battled valiantly and probably managed 10+ shots on net in the second half, but ultimately we couldn’t penetrate the blended Tigers defense. There really are too many excellent efforts to name individually here (we couldn’t get the list below 10), so we’ll forego any Grit and Grace award for this final game, but the coaches do want to thank the players for their great efforts and attitudes and the parents for all their support from the sidelines today, and all fall. We didn’t get back to our coveted .500 record, but the season was a tremendous success nevertheless!
