What a game!!!

Frantz Batoh
The much-anticipated soccer match between Westminster School and Berkshire started under clear skies, with the Martlets facing formidable opposition from Berkshire. The first half showcased the strength of Berkshire's defense, keeping Westminster at bay with tactical precision and resilience. It wasn't until over 25 minutes into the game that Westminster broke the deadlock. Mya Polastry '27 shone brightly, executing a dazzling slalom past three defenders to score the match's first goal. This breathtaking play was a testament to her skill and a turning point that significantly boosted the Martlets' confidence. With renewed energy, Margaux Walter '27 emerged as a key player in the midfield. Her relentless pressure and exceptional ball control consistently challenged the Berkshire defense, setting the tempo for Westminster and demonstrating her strategic prowess.

Westminster completely dominated the second half. The Martlets, riding high on their first-half success, showcased their technical skills and teamwork. Just 15 minutes into the half, Margaux Walter ‘27 capitalized on her commanding presence by scoring the second goal, doubling the Martlets' lead to 2-0. In a surprising and splendid turn of events, Eva Rogers '25, who had entered the game in the second half, scored a mesmerizing goal despite playing as a striker for the first time. Her adaptability and mental strength were evident as she beautifully found the back of the net, sealing the victory for the Martlets with a final score of 3-0.

The "GRIT & Grace" award was justifiably awarded to both Margaux and Eva. Margaux's leadership and relentless pursuit in the midfield set the stage for Westminster's offensive maneuvers, while Eva's remarkable performance in an unfamiliar position amazed everyone present. Their determination and versatility shone throughout the game, highlighting their significant contributions to this decisive victory.
