Martlets Fall to Suffield

Coming off the break following Parents & Family Weekend, we continued our unfortunate trend of surrendering early goals. A Suffield player dribbled through several defenders before netting the goal in the third minute. This sudden disadvantage seemed to waken several of our players and they picked up their effort. Halftime score of 0-1 had us in position for a second half comeback as we’d have the wind at our backs and the sun in the eyes of the Tigers’ goalie.

During halftime we specifically talked about coming out strong, making an impression, and grabbing the game into our hands…and Suffield scored in the first minute of the second half. Ethan Hernandez ‘27 made a great initial save, but Suffield tucked in the rebound to double their lead. Several minutes later the same player scored for Suffield giving him a hat trick on the day. About midway through the second half the Tigers broke through our defense to score a breakaway goal. The Tigers doubled us up on corner kicks (4-2), but our defense had another strong game creating eight offsides calls against Suffield.

The team was especially proud of the way Caden Cramer ‘27, Brooks Berthiaume ‘27, and Nazar Tatus ‘27 played. GRIT & Grace player of the game was Brooks for his continued display of energy, hustle, and desire. We travel to The Frederick Gunn School on Friday afternoon.
