Martlets Defeat Hopkins

After a quick turnaround from last night’s game, the Martlets were ready to get back to work against Hopkins this afternoon. Hopkins was also ready to put up a fight, and it was clear in the opening minutes that this would be a close contest that would require contributions from each person on the floor. The Martlets jumped out to an early lead, but the Hilltoppers stormed right back and snatched a one point lead to close the first quarter. The teams continued to swap runs, but the Martlets played from behind through the next three quarters. We received outstanding defensive play from Parker Perillo ’26, Gianna Monaco ’27, and Lauren Neuman ’25. Eva Rodgers and Kaitlyn Buda ’27 paced the offensive attack, each hitting three momentum shifting 3-pointers. In the second half, Lilly Murphy ’25 stepped up on both ends of the floor, shutting down Hopkins’s main scoring threat and contributing to our final run in the closing minutes of the game. With three minutes left in the game, the Martlets finally took the lead after Lilly collected an offensive rebound and made the put back. On the next possession, Gianna forced a steal, which led to another basket in the paint by Murphy. Lauren pushed the lead to 5 with a nice jump shot and then Lilly sealed the deal with another big basket — this time a hook shot off the glass. It took a gritty effort to secure today’s win and each Martlet had an impact on the victory. The team will look to continue this momentum when we travel to Williston Northampton on Wednesday.
