Martlets Shutout Lions

The Martlets hit the road again and headed out west to Kent for their third game of the season. Mana Shida ’25 kept her scoring streak alive with her first quarter goal off of a nice corner play. Her persistent play in the circle led to a 1-0 Martlet lead at the end of the first quarter. As the first half continued, the Martlets kept up their effort in the circle and solid defensive play. Catherine Knauf ’27 had the defensive play of the game when she recorded a defensive save to keep the Martlets lead through the second quarter. After regrouping at halftime, the Martlets came out strong and brought the energy for the remainder of the game. As the third quarter began, Mana Shida ’25, got her second of the game off of another rebound in the circle! Not long after, Liza Merrill ’25 and Lily Vincent ’25 found themselves alone in front of the goalkeeper. Merrill made a beautiful pass across to Vincent who was able to put it home and give the Martlets a 3-0 lead. The Martlets continued their smart ball movement throughout the half, which was a positive takeaway from today’s game. The Martlets capped off the game with a two goal fourth quarter, with goals coming from senior captain, Allysen Whitehead ’25. Her first was the result of another great pass from Liza Merrill ’25, and a strong hit to finish by Whitehead. Later in the quarter, Whitehead hit a nice reverse shot that found the back of the net to complete the scoring for the day! The Martlets secured their third win of the season to bring their record to 3-0! They look forward to their second game of their three game week on Friday, September 27th at Pomfret School at 4:45pm!
Our grit and grace player of the game is Catherine Knauf! Her impressive defensive save along with her consistent hard work all over the field helped the team get the win today!
