Martlets Fall to Suffield

The JV Boys started the game well, enjoying a period of sustained possession and limiting Suffield to their own half. The work rate of Auggie Jiranek ‘27 meant there was always a dangerous pass available. Auggie repeatedly proved himself a fierce competitor as he performed lung busting runs to cover space for his team or drive the ball forward in attack. Auggie regularly looks to better understand his game and brings an impeccable attitude to every action he takes. Suffield scored from outside the box on three separate occasions, taking advantage of lapses in pressure from the Westminster boys. Three moments of brilliance separated what were two evenly matched teams. Teddy Russell ‘26 spent the afternoon fighting for every ball and trying to progress the action towards the Suffield goal. His hard work was rewarded just two minutes from time with a break away goal which saw him sprint the length of the half and slot the ball coolly past the Suffield keeper. Teddy’s positive attitude means no ball is lost to him, and means he is a thorn in the side of any opponent. Lane Gallagher ‘25 spent the week being badgered with ideas for improvement by me, and foolishly put them into action to have his best game of the season so far. Lane’s movement reached new heights in both intelligence and intensity, and he was unlucky not to find the goal through his efforts.

The Grit & Grace award goes to Auggie Jiranek ‘27 for his tireless running and eagerness to adapt his game to the team’s needs.
