Martlets Shutout By Hill

The Martlets traveled to Brunswick to take on The Hill School for a neutral site game and their first away game of the season! As the first period got underway it was clear that the Martlets had made some positive steps forward from their prior game. The team was playing more as a unit and moved the puck well through the neutral zone, creating more possession time for the Black and Gold. The first period consisted of some good back and forth play and the Martlets looked solid in all three zones. With about three minutes remaining in the first, Hill took over momentum and had the Martlets hemmed in their defensive zone for the remainder of the period. Although not ideal, the Martlets showed a lot of heart by doing everything they could to keep the puck out of the net, including many impressive saves from sophomore goaltender, Kate Epke ‘27. As the second period got underway, the Hill School continued their momentum, making it hard for the Martlets to get in a rhythm. The Martlets struggled to get through the neutral zone and create offense. Unfortunately, the persistent pressure from The Hill School would result in two goals during the second period. Although the Martlets found themselves down by two, they continued working hard and made adjustments to help shift the momentum. As the period went on, the Martles started to control the puck more and created multiple good scoring chances including a breakaway from Mya Polastry ‘27 and another good chance from AJ Jimenez ‘25. Unfortunately the Martlets were unable to get on the scoreboard and would go into the 3rd period down by two. Throughout the third, the Martlets had a couple opportunities on the power play as well as some time spent on the penalty kill. With only a few minutes to go in the game, Hill got a powerplay goal to bring the final score to 3-0. The Martlets will continue to improve each game and are excited to go on the road again on Wednesday to take on Kent at 4:30pm!

Our Grit and Grace player of the game is Kate Epke ‘27! Kate made some incredible saves to help keep the Martlets in the game!
