Martlets Split Race

The boys cross country team earned their first win of the year against Berkshire, 28 to 29, while falling just short to Suffield, 29 to 26, this past Friday. The team had easily their best performance of the year on a course with arguably the most difficult hill so far with nine season best times out of the twelve runners competing Friday.

There was a thrilling, competitive finish between captain Sam Hyde (’25) who crossed second overall in a season best time of 19:21 and captain James O’Connell (’25) in 19:23, good enough for third overall in the race. These two are the epitome of leadership, and that shone through again on Friday. Clocking in at a 20:12 personal best and sixth overall, Nick Lopriore (’26) continued his ascension of the leaderboard, showing off his hard work and dedication to his craft. Michael Wang (’27) and our top third-former Mikey Wang (’28) were the fourth and fifth Martlets across the line for Westy and saved the day for Westminster against Berkshire in a one point victory, despite Michael getting lost at one point on the course and having to backtrack. Also setting season bests were Jeff Shao (’26) in 23:31, Daniel Frid (’27) in 22:51, Nick Ramsumair (’27) in 24:13.

Grit and Grace Award: Also setting personal bests were Connor Scollans (’26) in 23:19- which was a 2-minute personal best and Niraj Prakash (’26) who set a 4-minute personal best time of 25:42. Our coaches and team could not be more proud.
