Martlets Fall to Choate

This Wednesday afternoon, Choate edged out the Martlets 2-1 in a dramatic third-period showdown. The game, marked by tight defense, was decided in the final period of play. The game remained scoreless through the first two periods, with both teams creating chances but unable to break through the respective goalies. Choate broke the ice first, just a minute into the third period to give the Wild Boars the lead. Westminster didn’t back down and they finally found the back of the net just a couple minutes later to tie the game at one. The goal was scored by Gigi Filippetti ‘26, her first goal as a Martlet! Piper Chaisson ‘27 drove the puck to the net and Filippetti was able to kick the puck onto her stick and bury the puck in the back of the net! The Martlet bench was ecstatic for Filippetti! The following minutes consisted of back and forth play between the two teams with both teams having some chances. However, Choate responded swiftly, breaking through at 7:59 in the period to give the Wild Boars the 2-1 lead. Although discouraging, there was still plenty of time left on the clock! Westminster fought valiantly as the period went on and gave it their all. In the final minute of play, Westminster went on the power play in hopes to make a late game comeback. Despite the advantage, the Martlets were unable to break through Choate’s defense, and the Wild Boars held on for the win. Westminster looks to continue growing as a team and will be back at Jackson Rink on Saturday to take on NMH!
