Martlets Sweep Suffield
The girls remained unbeaten on the year with a 7-0 win against visiting Suffield. The Martlets’ advantage was most pronounced at the top of the ladder, as no. 1 Sophia Lazor ‘27 gave up only 13 points in her straight set win, while at the next two spots, co-captain Elle Wilson ‘26 and Marti Jamarillo ‘27 gave up only nine points each overall. Anna Min ‘27 also earned a straight set win at no. 7 (7, 7 ,3), as did Meiyin Ren ‘25 in an exhibition match (11, 9, 6). Things were a bit more interesting in the remaining matches. At no. 6, Natasha Johnson ‘27 was down a game before finding her stride and dominating the last three games ((6), 5, 5, 3). Co-captain Emily Fonner ‘26, presented with a quirky short game, took four games to prevail in a match that was not as close as the score suggests (9, 6, (7), 10). The most exciting match was played by co-captain Chase Hager ‘26, who found herself down two games, but combined strategic acumen and grit to earn the comeback win that preserved the team sweep. Next up for the girls is yet another local derby with the Wyverns of Kingswood-Oxford on Saturday.
