Martlets Fall to Close out Harrington Tournament

The Martlet’s closed out the Harrington Tournament with an early morning matchup against St. Mark’s. With this being the final game of the weekend, the Martlets were definitely fighting some fatigue, but showed grit throughout the 45 minutes of play. The first period consisted of a few opportunities for both teams, but neither were able to capitalize. The Martlet’s struggled on their breakouts, but the defensive play and goaltending stood strong to keep the Lions off the board. As the second period got underway, the Martlets seemed to have a bit more jump in their step than the first period. Some strong individual efforts made it clear that the Martlets still had some gas left in the tank. Unfortunately, the Lions were able to capitalize on a power play opportunity later in the period to put them ahead 1-0. The lone goal of the period would send the Martlet’s into the locker room down a goal heading into the final period of the weekend. Despite the team's efforts, they were unable to complete the third period comeback. St. Mark’s would get one more, bringing the final score to 2-0. A disappointing weekend for the Martlet’s but a lot of grit was shown throughout the four games. The team heads into winter break with a lot of positives to take with them into the new year and some areas they know they will need to focus on moving forward. The Martlet’s will be back at Jackson Rink on January 8th to take on Lawrenceville.

Our Grit and Grace player of the game is Bella Zapata ‘27! Bella was a spark for the team in each game this weekend and gave it her all every time she was on the ice!
