Martlets Fall to Berkshire

In the first game of the Holiday Tournament at Ethel Walker, the Martlets faced a familiar opponent, playing Berkshire for the second time in two weeks. With a week to prepare, Westminster worked to execute against Berkshire’s pressure defense and contest their outside shooters. When it came time for tipoff, the Martlets focused on their defense and worked to prevent Berkshire from getting off to a quick start. Their efforts paid off, forcing the Bears into taking tougher shots than our first meeting. Unfortunately, on the offensive end, the Martlets struggled to get into a rhythm against an aggressive and disciplined Berkshire defense. Even when open shots were available, they refused to fall, leading to several minutes of scoreless action. However, in the second half, Westminster found success when pushing the ball in transition and finding open shooters after executing our offensive sets. Lauren Neuman ‘25 had a noticeable impact on the game, displaying grit on both ends of the floor and refusing to give up. Ellie Smith ‘27 also stepped up in her first game as a starter, securing valuable rebounds and limiting Berkshire’s post players.
