Martlets Shutout K-O

This Saturday, the Westminster Girls Varsity soccer team celebrated and thanked their Sixth Formers with a special senior day against the Wyverns of Kingswood Oxford. Before taking the field, the Martlets honored their nine seniors of the class of 2024 who have given so much to the program over the years: Lauren Neuman, Emme Pacheco-Hager, Avauni Anderson, Avery Boulanger, Adrienne Hall, Tilly Lynch, Emma Isakoff, Helen Marshall, and Remi Morello. With high energy and excitement for their seniors, the Martlets came ready to play. The Martlets were able to score three goals today, with the first coming from Hannah Coccaro ‘26 for her fourth consecutive goal over the span of the last three games. With just under 12 minutes remaining in the first half, Izzie Leone ‘27 threw the ball in for Mia Fluckiger ‘26 to run onto in the Wyvern half. Fluckiger was gritty in her attack; with her defender close, Fluckiger dribbled into the box, took a shot that deflected off the goalie, and Coccaro was there for the finish. Westminster entered the second half eager to continue their solid work and find the net a couple more times. Just ten minutes into the second half, Hayley Fineberg ‘26 found Taryn Overstreet ‘26 who was making an attacking run from the outside back position. After taking a few touches, Overstreet soared the ball, at least 30 yards out, into the back of the Wyvern net! Finally, the Martlets found their final goal with just eight minutes left on the clock. Fineberg once again played a great ball to Fluckiger that pulled the Wyvern keeper off her line. Fluckiger was quick to take a touch past the hands of the goalie, and place the ball into the back of the net. The team looks forward to their next matchup against Ethel Walker. The game will be played down the road in Simsbury, this Wednesday, October 23rd, at 2:30 PM.

Grit and Grace Award: The Grit and Grace Award today is given to our nine seniors for their unwavering dedication, resilience, and leadership both on and off the field - not just today, but throughout their careers as Martlets on Westminster GVS!
