Martlets defeat AOF

We came away with a solid Parents Weekend win in a game that was much closer than the final score suggested. The game was very even until the 18-minute mark, weh Caden Weichselbaumer ‘28 scored the first of three goals on an assist from winger Gavin Ciriello ‘28. We had a lot of chances after that, but couldn’t capitalize on them. A couple of near misses by the Winged Beavers almost put the visitors ahead, but we were lucky to start the second half with the lead. Issac Kwon ‘28 gout the second half scoring started on what might be our prettiest goal of the year so far: a soaring one-timer from the 18 off a feed from midfielder Sam Jiang ‘28 that curved into the upper left corner of the goal. Caden tallied his second on another feed from Ciriello, a play that originated past midfield on some nice give-and-go action involving Weichselbaumer and Paul Coccaro ‘28. A minute later a miscommunication on a through ball that led to Avon’s only score of the day. We mostly controlled the action after that and had numerous opportunities but could only convert a Ryan Sun ‘28 rebound of his own shot and Caden’s third of the day, assisted by Kwon. Henry Brooks played the entire game and got the win in net, while Brooks BeVier ‘28, Finn O’Shaugnessy ‘28 and Ben Katz ‘28 played really well in the back wall. We will enjoy some well-deserved rest and look to avenge our loss to Granby High next Wednesday.
