Martlets Shutout by Taft

Today marked an exciting home game for the Martlets against Taft. The team came out strong, applying early pressure and showcasing their attacking skills. However, at times, too many players committed to the offense, leaving our defense vulnerable. Taft's quick passing and ball possession were significant factors, allowing them to score three goals in the first half. Despite this, goalkeeper Will Gallagher '27 delivered an impressive performance, making several crucial saves and standing tall as a defensive pillar for the team, though he often lacked sufficient support from the backline. Adrien Dellaert '25 and Teddy Russell '26 consistently pushed forward, creating opportunities and demonstrating tenacity, but we struggled to find the target. Dylan Ness '26 and Charlie Hansell '28 displayed excellent speed and ball interaction, effectively supporting their teammates in attack. Maruli Sianturi '28 worked tirelessly in the midfield, showcasing great effort in both attacking and defending, while Lane Gallagher '25 relentlessly sought a breakthrough goal for the Martlets, but the efforts fell short. Despite the team's relentless fighting spirit, Taft's speed and coordination ultimately led them to score four additional goals in the second half. The Martlets demonstrated determination and skill throughout, and while the scoreboard may not reflect it, there are many positives to build upon as we move forward. Keep fighting, Martlets!
The Grit and Grace Award today is awarded to Will Gallagher '27 for his outstanding performance in goal. Will demonstrated remarkable skill and composure, making numerous impressive saves to keep the Martlets’ momentum.
