Martlets Fall to Kent

Westminster started off their first home meet of the season vs Kent School by welcoming the Special Olympic athletes in unified relays. The Simsbury Special Olympic Swim Team has been practicing at the Westminster pool for years. Past Westminster swimmers (Layton Harmon ’21, Max Larock ’22 and Lucy Benoit ’23) as well as current Westminster swimmers (Will Larock ’26, Hayden Schneider ’25 and Reggie Kanu ’25) have been assisting in coaching the team. This meet marked the first time Westminster has invited the Simsbury Special Olympic Team to compete side by side with the Martlets in unified relays.
 
 
On the boys’ side, the Martlets put up some great times and finishes. It started with the boys taking first and third in the 200 Medley Relay with the winning team comprised of Ben Yu ’28, Reggie Kanu ’25, Sam Hyde ’25 and John Dwyer ’26.  The success continued with Will Larock ’26 (200 free and 500 free), John Dwyer ’26 (200 IM and 100 back), Reggie Kanu ’25 (50 free and 100 breast) each taking first place in 2 events. Jesse Yang ’27 took first place in the 100 free. The Martlets also took first and third place again in the 200 Free Relay with the winning team comprised of John Dwyer ’26, Will Larock ’26, Sam Hyde ’25 and Reggie Kanu ’25. took first place in the 200 IM and 100 back.
 
On the girls’ side, the Martlets put up some great times and finishes. It started with the girls taking third (Ellie Pearman ’25, Hayden Schneider ’25, Jen Weber ’26 and Sunshine Li ’26). Great swims continued with Jen Weber ’26 taking second and Cameron Perillo ’28 finishing fifth in the 200 free. Hayden Schneider ’25 won second place in the 200 IM. Sunshine Li’26, Lily Raskind ’25 and Isla Cauchi ’28 finished fourth, fifth and seventh in the 50 free.  Jen Weber ’26 went on to finish third in the 100 fly. Ellie Pearman ’25, Ellie Mallett ’28 and Isla Cauchi ’28 finished second, sixth and seventh in the 100 free. Hayden Schneider ’25 won the 500 free.  The team of Caroline Hebbeler ’27, Elise Park ’25, Savannah Griffith ’27 and Lily Raskind ’25 took third place in the 200 free relay. Ellie Pearman ’25 and Caroline Hebbeler ’27 finished second and sixth in the 100 backstroke. Lily Raskind ’25 finished third in the 100 breaststroke. To finish off the day of swimming, the relay team of Hayden Schneider ’25, Jen Weber ’26, Ellie Pearman ’25 and Sunshine Li ’26 finished in second place in the 400 free Relay.
 
Westminster is back in the pool swimming against The Ethel Walker School, The Eaglebrook School and Wilbraham and Monson this Saturday
