Martlets Lose Close One to Taft

The Martlets took on Taft this Saturday afternoon at Jackson Rink but ultimately fell 2-1. Both teams showed resilience throughout the game, but it was Taft who capitalized on key moments to secure the win. After a scoreless first period, the game remained tight as both teams exchanged chances. Despite strong play and sustained pressure from the Martlets, they were unable to find the back of the net. Taft, on the other hand, found their stride in the second period, scoring twice to take a 2-0 lead into the final frame. The Martlets responded in the third period with a powerplay goal by Piper Chaisson ‘27 at around the nine-minute mark, cutting the deficit to 2-1. Rose Robertson ‘28 got the put through from the blue line and Chaisson’s relentless play in front allowed her to find the back of the net. The goal sparked a surge in momentum for Westminster as they pressed for the equalizer. In the final minutes, the Martlets pulled their goalie in a last-ditch effort to tie the game, but Taft's defense held firm, and the Rhinos came away with the victory. Westminster's performance showed promise, particularly in their strong first and third periods, where they outshot their opponents. Despite the loss, the Martlets will look to build on this effort and improve ahead of their next game. The Martlets are back at Jackson Rink this Wednesday to take on Choate at 3pm!
Our Grit and Grace player of the game is senior captain Remi Morello ‘25! All season Remi has led through her positive attitude and hard work and today she was recognized by her teammates for giving it all for the team!
