Martlets Fall to Ethel Walker

In our first game back from winter break, the Martlets welcomed our cross-town neighbor to campus. In the opening minute of the game, Westminster was dealt a blow when captain Lilly Murphy ‘25 exited the game with an injury. Already shorthanded in the post with the absence of Delia Lockwood ‘26, the burden of defending Ethel Walker’s post player fell to Ellie Smith ‘27 and Katilyn Buda ‘27. Westminster also faced a full court press from Ethel Walker; the Martlets were able to break through the pressure, however, they made some uncharacteristic turnovers in the halfcourt and struggled to find open looks. Walkers had a double digit lead before Westminster found their first basket from Kaitlyn Buda ‘27. However, the Martlets continued to battle in spite of Walker's size advantage and the depth of their bench. Parker Perillo ‘26 helped lead the charge – after chipping her tooth in a physical play, she was determined to make her impact felt on both ends of the floor. She played relentless defense and began taking advantage of her mismatch on the offensive end by posting up and scoring on her smaller defender. Kaitlyn Buda ‘27 also helped pace our scoring in the second half and ended the day with 9 points and 8 rebounds. The Martlets will hope to be at full strength next week when we host Choate on Wednesday.
