Martlets Defeat Pomfret

The Martlets continued their away game stretch with a Friday afternoon matchup at Pomfret. The gritty Pomfret team got an early 1-0 lead, but the Martlets quickly bounced back and evened the score at 1-1. Hadley Crowther ‘25 put a hard shot on net and Lily Vincent ‘25 was able to put home the rebound! Later in the quarter, the Pomfret team added another to the scoreboard off of a successful corner play. The teams would continue their battle throughout the second half with the score remaining 2-1. At halftime, the Martlets regained their composure and rallied as a team. Throughout the final two quarters, the Martlets did a great job of putting pressure on the Pomfret defense and maintaining possession in the offensive zone. Just under halfway through the third quarter, the senior duo of Crowther ‘25 and Vincent ‘25 executed a successful corner play with the goal coming from the stick of Crowther this time. The third quarter ended with each team having two goals a piece. The fourth quarter battle began and the Martlets continued to put forth a good effort. About five minutes in, the Pomfret team executed another corner, giving them a one goal lead with ten minutes remaining. The relentless effort from the Martlets continued and just 30 seconds later, Liza Merrill ‘25 made a beautiful pass across to Lily Vincent ‘25 to tie the game at three! This goal was Vincent’s second of the game. The game remained even, but not for long. The Martlets earned a corner with about six minutes remaining in the game and Allysen Whitehead ‘25 showed great poise when receiving the ball and was able to put the ball in the back of the net, giving the Martlets a 4-3 lead! Both teams battled hard during the final minutes and the Martlets were able to hang on for their fourth win of the season! The senior leadership shined today, helping the team find a way to win even when things weren’t going their way. The Martlets have a quick turnaround and will play at home tomorrow against Choate at 3pm! We hope to see you there!
Our grit and grace player of the game is Pippa Jiranek ‘26! Although Pippa was not on the scoresheet, she contributed in many ways that are just as valuable. She played a major role in many of the key moments in today’s game through her hard work and relentless play!
