Martlets Defeat Suffield

We earned our first win of the season with a solid performance at Suffield. Caden Weichselbaumer ‘28 netted our first goal of the season with a half-field sprinting win of a 50-50 ball – the epitome of a gritty goal! 16 minutes later we extended our lead to 2-0 when Caden hit a beautiful cross from the right wing which midfielder Rafa Rodrigues ‘28 tucked into the left corner of the net. Ryan Sun ‘28 finished our scoring for the day when he converted a PK with just one minute remaining in the first half. We didn’t play quite as well in the second half, although we did largely control the action – Sun just missed on a point-blank shot set up for him by midfielder Carsten Matthews ‘28 and then set up winger Issac Kwon ‘28, who just missed. We had a furious three minutes in front of the Suffield net that featured close calls by Justin Li ‘28 and Hyunwoo Chung ‘28. Ethan Grover ‘28, Noah Maltby, Soren Techet ‘28 and Dylan Curtis ‘28 were solid in the back line, and although a defensive lapse led to the Tigers only goal of the day at the four-minute mark, we mostly played really well in the defensive end. We’re mostly really proud of our squad for showing a lot of grace and sportsmanship while also giving a gritty effort. Congrats to Ryan for winning the Grit and Grace award for his outstanding offensive play and relentless hustle!
