Martlets Fall to DA

Frantz Batoh
The JV Girls Soccer team suffered their first loss of the season today, falling to Deerfield 4-2. The game kicked off with Deerfield quickly asserting their dominance, striking first with a quick goal. The Martlets were a little shaken by this quick score, however they continued to fight tenaciously. Deerfield continued to play aggressive and netted two more goals before halftime.

In the second half, Westminster made some strategic adjustments and came out strong, keeping the majority of the action on Deerfield’s side of the field. Control started coming back to the Martlets. The first goal for Westminster was scored off a corner kick by Wynne Prichett '28, with the assist from Georgia Ursano '28. Feeling the swing of momentum Westminster pressed forward in search of the equalizer, pressuring Deerfield’s defense. Despite their efforts, in the dying minutes of the match, Deerfield sealed their victory with a fourth goal. With the clock just about to run out, a hand ball was called against Deerfield. The Martlets had one more chance to score. A direct kick was right on target, but was bobbled around only to find Mya Polastry '27, who was able to punch in the second and final goal for Westminster.
The match ended 4-2, leaving the Martlets with valuable lessons and the determination to bounce back in their next game. A special shout out to Abby Cirelli '27, Chloe Champoux '28, and Eliza Reilly '27 for giving it their all and leaving it on the field.
