Martlets Defeat Avon HS

It was a good first match back on the courts where the Martlets took on a very competitive Co-ed group from Avon High School. After warm up, the Martlets took to the courts for the even number matches.
Playing #4, Crosby Cutler ‘27 was first off the court with a quick and efficient 3 game win. At #2, Mathias Seber ‘26 took his first game quickly, but dropped the remaining three to a strong opponent. At #6 and #8 exhibition respectively, Daniel Frid ‘27 and Sam Jiang ‘28 saw themselves in very competitive matches. After dropping the first 9-11, Frid battled back to win some close games in the remaining 3. He took games 2 and 3 12-10 and 11-8, before battling to a 13-11 win in game 4. Jiang started very strong and took the first 2 games for the loss of just 8 points. After a minor hiccup saw him regroup game 3, he rebounded to win the fourth game 15-13 to take the match win.
After a long first round of matches, the Martlets led 2-1. This quickly became 2-2 as Ryan Sun ‘28 dropped his match to a talented and strong #1. Some great points were had throughout this match but the Avon player was too strong. Will Henry quickly made the score 3-2 for the Martlets with his efficient 6,6,4 victory at #3. Finally, at #5 and #7 Isaac Kwon ‘28 and Andrew Ma ‘27 clinched the win for the Martlets with their strong 3 game victories.
After a long vacation, this was a nice first effort back to competition for the Martlets. We will be back in Kohn Squash Pavillion on Saturday as we take on Berkshire at 2:30.
