Martlets Fall To Brunswick

The Martlets hit the road on Saturday, heading south to face off against a red-hot Brunswick squad. Fresh off a convincing win over the Kent Lions, the Bruins were rolling, while the Martlets were looking to bounce back from a tough loss to Choate just a few days earlier.
From the opening puck drop, both teams played with a ton of pace. However, it was Brunswick that struck first, taking a 1-0 lead. The Bruins capitalized on a costly turnover at the Martlets’ blue line to double their lead, going up 2-0 by the end of the first period.
With the Martlets trailing 2-0 entering the second frame, Brunswick continued to apply pressure, but the Black and Gold responded with some solid zone time and offensive push. Unfortunately, despite some excellent chances, the Bruins’ netminder was unbeatable, keeping the Martlets off the board. Brunswick, however, would add two more goals in the second, extending their lead to 4-0. Owen Burke '26 eventually broke through and added the Martlets only goal of the day before the end of the second period.
Though the scoreboard wasn’t in their favor, the Martlets didn’t quit. The third period saw their best hockey of the day. The team pushed the pace, generating quality chances and playing with a more disciplined, tighter game in both the offensive and defensive zones. Still, Brunswick sealed the deal with an empty-netter to make it 5-1. It should be noted that Martlet netminder, despite the outcome, played very well, turning aside 32 of 37 attempts.
A special shout-out goes to Mike Kennedy ’00, who continues to do an outstanding job as head coach of Brunswick. Kennedy’s leadership has his team playing solid 200-foot hockey, and the Martlets tip their cap to him for another well-coached performance.
With the Flood Marr Tournament on the horizon, the Martlets will look to tighten up a few key areas before heading into their next challenge.
