Martlets Move to 2-0

The girls went to 2-0 with another decisive win, this time over the Daisies of Miss Porters. Co-captains Elle Wilson ‘26 at #2 and Emily Fonner ‘26 at #4 were particularly dominant on the strength of powerful winners. Natasha Johnson ’27 (#6) and Anna Min ‘27 (#7) had to work a bit harder, but each was in control, giving up a total of 13 and 14 points, respectively, in their matches. At #3, Marti Jaramillo Aman ‘27 played a tight first game, before cruising in her last two (3 and 2), while #1 Sophia Lazor ‘27 was pushed by a dogged defender, but had too many weapons to handle, and prevailed 6, 6, 4. The remaining two matches both went to five games, providing the suspense for the day. Co-captain Chase Hager ‘26 found herself in the rare position of playing an opponent who hit drops on almost every shot. The result was an unfamiliar spectacle that saw the girls trade games before the Daisies prevailed in game five. In the exhibition match, Meiyin Ren ‘25 dropped her first two games in extra points before figuring out what she needed to do, storming back for the come-from-behind win. With Saturday’s match canceled, the girls will have almost a month before returning to action.
