Martlets Defeat Deerfield
The first home game of the season for the JV Girls Hockey squad was an exhibition of a powerful offensive performance. That said, the team was faced with an early 0 - 2 deficit within the first minutes of the game as a talented Deerfield team stepped off the bus and onto the ice in spirited fashion. Captain Lucy Wainwright'25 found the net before the first-period horn sounded making it clear that the Martlets were not going to lie down. After a great leadership moment from Captain Tilly Lynch '25 speaking about positioning and defensive protection - the team moved into activate mode and began to control the rink at both ends. One of the brightest moments of the game came on a textbook give-and-go from Captain Liza Merrill '25 to Sofia Eleuteri '28 and back to Merrill with an empty third of the net to pop it home. Other goals came from Lucy Wainwright, Liza Merrill and Abigail Graham '27 (all with two goals apiece), along with solo tallies from Helen Marshall '25, Abbey Cirelli '27, and Sofia Eleuteri. Tilly Lynch had another 30 saves, half of those were in the third period!
